M’Hamid el ghizlane, formerly known as Taragalte, is a Moroccan rural town in the province of Zagora and the region of Souss-Massa-Draa. It is the last village before the desert, located in the south of the province of Zagora and southeast of the Souss-Massa-Draa along the Draa Valley, at the end of the road N° coming from Zagora (94 km). The Taragalte Festival is held every year in October and celebrates music, culture and art from all over Morocco and beyond.

The name Taragalte would mean “the plain  of gazelles”. They roamed the premises, unfortunately very long time ago. Taragalte is located in a palm grove at the edge of the Sahara Desert. The village has a small medina, or old city, with narrow streets and traditional Moroccan architecture. There are several guesthouses and restaurants in Taragalte catering to tourists who come to experience the desert.

If you’re looking for an authentic Moroccan desert experience, Taragalte is the perfect place to go!
